The second annual “Bike 4 Betty” scored a big hit with families on Sunday morning, May 24, 2009. Over 650 registrants came to Memorial Park, Port Credit to cycle for cancer care services at Trillium Health Centre. Many participants stayed for the “Family Festival”, attracting dozens more local residents out enjoying the sun.
Participants of all ages cycled for ‘Betty – or all the women in their life’, riding their choice of a 2, 15, 30, 40 or 75-kilometre route in beautiful Port Credit, Oakville and Halton Hills and raising over $150,000. This amount has been generously matched by an anonymous donor for an impressive total of $300,000 towards the cost of Trillium Health Centre’s new 64-slice CT scanner.
This sophisticated equipment will ensure expert, leading-edge diagnosis and compassionate treatment in state-of-the-art facilities that encompass the Betty Wallace Women’s Health Centre and the Betty and Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre at Trillium – West Toronto.
Big thanks go to founding sponsors Willson International and Gears. Peter Willson, a long-standing Trillium supporter and Vice Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, was on hand to address to the crowd. While several Willson International employees cycled, others volunteered at registration. Kevin Wallace inspired attendees with his passionate drive to find a cure for the disease that claimed the life of his mother, Betty Wallace.
Thanks to sponsors Beemaid, Delta Toronto Airport West, Leewi Yoga, Longo’s, MetalWorks Production Group, Pizza Pizza, Quickrete Cement and Concrete Products, The Data Group of Companies and U2R1 Media, our second ‘Bike 4 Betty’ was the best yet!
